WHY LEARNING ABOUT CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND SUSTAINABLE FASHION?
We cannot imagine a world without textiles and, above all, without clothes, as they give us comfort, protection, and comprise our individuality. Besides, textile industry is an important player in the global economy, since it generates jobs for hundred million people.
MODULE 1: Defining Sustainability
The first module is a general introduction to sustainability and regenerative economies. The history and the meaning of sustainability concept are explained covering different topics such as SDGs and Global Pact. Furthermore, sustainability concepts are applied to fashion industry discovering concepts such as eco-fashion, ethical fashion, sustainable fashion, and circular fashion.
MODULE 2: Product Cycle and Value Chain
A. An overview of the Fashion Industry. This module explores how current unsustainable and lineal fashion industry model looks like, focusing on environmental problems caused by fast fashion.
B. Fashion Industry and Human Rights. The chapter examines human rights violations present in the fast fashion model. Forced and child labor, discrimination, working safety conditions, and freedom of speech are discussed.
C. Sustainable Manufacturing process and Fibers. As an alternative to fast fashion model, this module discovers sustainable manufacturing processes and value chain. Moreover, the different types of natural fibers and their benefits are discussed.
MODULE 3: Circular Fashion
A. Circular economy applied to Fashion. This module provides an introduction to circular economy, circular design and circular fashion.
B. Circular Fashion and Social Innovation. Furthermore, social innovation and design for circular fashion is explored, focusing on innovative materials, new fibers, and the use of new technologies.
MODULE 4: Sustainability Solutions: Businesses and Consumers
The last module focuses on different concepts such as transparency and traceability, CSR, social business, certifications and standards, and consumer’s behavior to start a new paradigm shift in current fashion industry production and consumption.
MODULE 5: Best Practices/Call to Action
A Call to Action guidance for improving circular practices in business is explained.
