Hecho x Nosotros, a NGO which has Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC), is an organization that works to promote sustainability in the textile and fashion industry. We contribute to the development of the industry by involving producers, companies, governments, academics, designers and consumers. For the past ten years, we have collaborated with civil society and international institutions to create tools to systematically change the current model of fashion; a model in crisis due to the negative social and environmental impact it has.
Hecho x Nosotros and animaná believe that the textile and fashion industry have great potential to promote circular nature-based practices that respect the environment and evolutionary processes. It also impulses the development of communities across their value chains by promoting fair compensation and building up their abilities.

During the past decade we have worked with textile communities, players who are at the foundation of the camelid fiber value chain in Latin America. The most important takeaway thanks to our direct work with these players is a increased understanding of the technical and social barriers which these cooperatives and SMEs face in their effort to connect with players in the fashion industry’s ecosystem. The disconnection between SMEs and global value chains is a big part of the problem and creating these links should be a part of the solution.

We also recognize that to find sustainable long term solutions it is necessary to include different players of the society such as academics, international organizations, public and private sectors, civil society and communities in the fashion world. Because of this, throughout the years we have complemented our direct work with the creation of multidisciplinary spaces that can lead to holistic impact models.
